10th-Nov-2008 12:15 pm - My friggin hospital
Cog
I just now found out that the anesthesiologists at my hospital refuse to give epidurals to laboring women who are attempting a VBAC.

I am shocked!! Even my OB says that this policy is quasi-unethical.

I'm already 26 weeks along. And now I am really considering switching hospitals which is a huge deal when VBAC hospitals are all 1+ hours away from my home and I'm in New England where Februaries are typically icy and snowy.

I feel like my rights as a human being are being violated by this policy. I am so ANGRY! I don't know where to start but this policy is WRONG and needs to be challenged. Anyone have any ideas?
3rd-Nov-2008 09:12 pm - Lillie is two...
SHINY
Lillie turned 2 on the 17th...

It has been strange. Lillie continues to be very small and yet very tall...*shrug*. 35 1/2 inches tall (aprx 80th%), and only 22 pounds 8 ounces (0-5th%). We spent the summer with her trying to get a Sweat test on her for Cystic Fibrosis (she doesnt have it! YEAH!), intestinal and stomach biopsies, and various prick tests for allergies. She routinely sees her allergist for food and environmental allergies, hoping that if we can sort it all out she might gain weight. It has been a challenge raising my Lilliebird, but it has been SO worth it.

She is a bright and vibrant young bird. She is sassy and feisty. She loves her baby dolls, and cars. She loves her vegan cupcakes, and apples. She chases the cats and her 8 year old brother. She would live outdoors if she could. She would also live in a tutu if she could. She loves to dance, bounce, and scream like a velocoraptor (which is migraine inducing!).

She is tall, petite, and glorious. And they FINALLY shut all the medical books on her. They have decided to let her keloided tonsils stay in until she is bigger and better able to handle the surgery. She is not deeply obstructed from them, so we keep an eye on her for any change in her obstruction.

No more looking for reasons for her low weight. They have decided to say, "she just is herself...and herself is simply tall and thin. So be it." we will keep up with the Nutritionist and allergist simply because it helps to keep her weight up and give us strategies with her allergies and calorie needs.

But beyond that...NO MORE REFERRALS! WHOOHOO!

*whew* what a whirlwind first two years...what does the next hold???

OK, I think I'm not doing a good enough job when it comes to discipline and Babywookie.

Have any suggested reading for age appropriate discipline?

Thanks!

whitewash Sherri
Beautiful, 7 lb. 13 oz., 19 inch, baby GIRL!

Her name is Josephine Yvaine and she is turning out to be the sweetest little thing.  She was born after 6 1/2 hours of labor (which I hesitate to call it, because only the last hour was painful) at 7:23 am on November 2nd.  She looks just like Sydney.  Which means she looks just like Matt.  Most of my labor was contractions 3-4 minutes apart lasting about 30-45 seconds.  It was weird to feel so normal and to laugh and talk.  Sydney woke up at about 6:15 and ended up going to the neighbors because she got really scared when I started screaming.  I'm having problems with nursing again, we are doing an SNS until my milk comes in because Josie was already showing signs of dehydration.  It's going well, though.  She is an excellent nurser with a strong latch.  And she loves to nurse, much to the dismay of my aching chest.  I hate giving her formula, but the alternative is too unbearable.  So, we'll just do this and hope that the Metformin I have begun to take will improve my milk supply.  Anyway, on to the pictures!

Here is Sydney:

Sister LOVE!

And, coincidentally, I am feeling great.  I had a superficial tear, but it didn't need stitches and I am getting around pretty well.  I'm also not feeling too tired for being awake over 30 hours.  And, HOORAY for nursing, I'm already down 15 pounds (just 6 pounds heavier than my start weight.)

Stork

At least, I hope it stays, being that I am one week past my due date.  So far my contractions are manageable, 5-7 minutes apart, and lasting about 45 seconds a piece.

Okay, OUCH.  That last one really hurt.  Maybe I'll call my midwife.

I figure I've been awake now for over an hour, with that, "I'm having a baby today" feeling.  So, there it is!  Wish me luck!

(HA!  Yesterday at my appointment, my midwife said she didn't think I'd go this week.)

Well, I guess I still might not...but, I doubt that.

Thank GOD for homebirth!!!

She has finally learned the art of smiling for a picture.  :)

We didn't get pictures of her blowing out her candles, but we got video.  I figured I'd leave that off, though.

Happy birthday, my little monkey!!

14th-Oct-2008 02:21 pm - Happy Birthday to Emma!
Well, my lil' munchkin turned 2 yesterday. She's such a big girl! She speaks in full, understandable sentences and is 99.9999% potty trained. :D Those are just two of my favorite milestones she's reached. And her understanding of things is so amazing. It's just incredible! And for all you (still) lactating mamas, we're still going strong on that front as well!

6th-Oct-2008 11:38 am - My baby is 2!
Miles and Mommy
I can't believe it, but my tiny little boy is now 2.
I'm having a really hard time today for some reason. My birth was far from perfect and the weeks following were horrific to say the least. Every other day of the year I'm "over it", but today I am NOT! I can't even think about it without tearing up.

Miles is absoultely amazing though. He is such a joy and so incredibly smart! I am in awe of him daily.

On to the Pictures!

3rd-Oct-2008 08:47 pm - Diaper fun!
Happy the clam
So Ben just grabbed a diaper out of his backpack. I laughed and said "oh, are you going to change your diaper?" He didn't say anything, just quietly went over to the couch. My back is facing him. A couple minutes later, I hear him saying, "Chucks, Chucks." I turn around, and his pants are at his knees, his diaper is off, and he's trying to take his shoes (Chuck Taylors) off so that he can get his pants the rest of the way off. I help him, and he undresses the rest of the way, and then puts the clean diaper on (with help, but still), and takes the wet diaper to the trash.

And yet he refuses to go in the potty!

So this is a post, where are all of your just/almost 2-year-olds (!) with the potty training?

Have any recommendations for co-sleepers? Incl. Brand, style, where to buy them, etc.?

I'm starting to get ready for the next little one a little early this time.

12th-Sep-2008 09:11 am - Oh Dear
running wolf
Seems i dont' spend nearly enought time on LJ anymore. Cute new baby and Pregnant Mommies everywhere. :D Grats to everyone who's had their babies and to all those still waiting. : )

Fay's so big now. We have full out conversations and she's liek my little parrot. She loves to repeat anythign you say to her and will do so over and over. She's attending full time daycare now which is nice. She loves it. She's really good for me now when I drop her off. She doesn't cry at all. Gives me her kisses and off she goes. Here's the funny thing, she cries when Ipick her up. Whats that about? lol. The daycare says shes just so happy to see me. Anyone else who has their child in daycare cry only when you coem to get them? and she does that when I pcick her up from her fathers also.

So she's inthe big girl bed and doing rather well now. She shares the room with her sister though we have ot put my older daughter in after Fayth's asleep or she stands in her bed and yells at kaylynn for no reason :P She adores Blues Clues, Dora, Diego, Scooby Doo and anything Elmo. We have about five videos with a bunch of episodes that she has watched so many times she can now recite the words from heart and often will.

She loves people. On the bus to daycare she'll touch and question anyone that comes within arms reach. People on the bus share her affection and spend the ride playing " whats that " with her. lol. We got on he bus once and my mother sat at the back while Fayth and I sat at the front. Fay waved to my mother and got a surprise when everyone infrotn of my mother waved back. LOL. they didn't know she was waving to her grandmother. But once she saw what she could do she had those five strangers waving at her for the whole bus ride.

So I'm goign to be trying to catch up with as many post as I can and i'll be hrere more often now. : ) dont' be surprised if I comment on an entry you wrote ages ago. :P
11th-Sep-2008 08:12 am - Self weaning?
Happy Cupcake
This morning when Babywookie woke up he asked for a cookie instead of booby. We had a muffin for breakfast and he still hasn't asked for booby!!!

I'm so happy! I was going to wean him this weekend, he must have been feeling the same way. Oh the relief, I was so sad at the idea of forcing the situation.
27th-Aug-2008 04:47 pm - Teething
alzheimers
Is anyone else's little one teething again?  I've forgotten what hell this can be!  Sydney's symptoms are crabbiness (of course), diarrhea, lack of appetite and hating her father.  Is this weird?  Does anyone else's child hate their spouse when teething?

Also, what the heck do I try this time around.  She is so whiny and unbearable!

TIA
21st-Aug-2008 11:52 am - Breastfeeding...the end of an era.
Stork
Well, it's been awhile, I know.

Sydney and I are reaching the end of our breastfeeding relationship and I'm a bit sad about it.  I'm trying really hard not to be selfish about it, but I am pretty certain all the signs are pointing toward this ending.

It started to decline from the regular twice daily nursings at naptime and bedtime about a month ago, when Sydney got the mother of all colds.  She had a double ear infection and wasn't breathing well out of her nose.  The whole thing was uncomfortable for both of us.  Finally the cold started to subside a bit, then Sydney fell down in the shower and chipped her front tooth.  It's so jagged and sharp that nursing has become too painful for me.  Now I nurse her once a day, only when she asks...

I'm sad and relieved all at once, because I was wondering how the weaning would go down and how I would feel.  Since the choice to nurse has really been stripped from me, I'm feeling less guilty than I would if I had the choice.  Plus, Sydney seems to be doing fine with the whole thing so far.  I can't complain.

Still, I will always remember my little one snuggling close in my arms, just like she did that first day.  I will always have snuggle time, but it will never be the same again.

17th-Aug-2008 04:40 pm - Flying, Car Seats, and Taxi Rides
Choker
Treyvan and I are going on a short trip to New Orleans, we leave tomorrow actually. It's been a last minute sort of trip and it's a gift from my MIL. The thing is he's going to be spending the ride there on my lap. It's not the safest, but we don't have the money to buy a second ticket.

We will have to take a taxi into town. I've never heard of a taxi with a car seat so I'm thinking I will have to bring our own. However the one we have is not an easy seat to just pick up and lug around along with a 22 month old and all our baggage. I don't have money to buy anything smaller though. I've read that you shouldn't check car seats with your luggage but at the gate. Can you do this? Has anyone done this that can shed some light on the subject for me?

I hate the idea of him sitting on my lap for the taxi ride. The more I think about it, the more I'm willing to be weighted down with more stuff then I can handle. I'm just not sure which is the best way to go about the whole thing.

I hope you guys can help me out, even if it is a last minute question. TIA
14th-Aug-2008 04:27 pm - An Update of My own
I just love reading everyone's updates, so today I am posting one of my own. The boys are 22 months old and talking up a storm. Their twin language is fascinating to listen to. It is so cute how they are best friends and look out for each other. They are such loving little boys. I am almost 19 weeks pregnant with baby #4, and we just found out today that we are having a second girl. :) Two of each, so now the sides are even. lol!
